The Sports Ecosystem as a driver of youth empowerment and sustainable development

By Mr. Mohamed Lafoui, from morocco

The sports ecosystem goes far beyond competition and entertainment; it represents a powerful engine for youth empowerment, social inclusion, and economic growth. Major sporting events such as the FIFA World Cup create opportunities for young people through employment, skills development, and innovation across multiple sectors including logistics, media, tourism, and infrastructure.

For youth, sport is also a tool for education and values. It promotes discipline, teamwork, leadership, and resilience qualities that are essential in today’s rapidly changing world. By investing in grassroots sports, training programs, and professional pathways, countries can channel youth energy toward positive and productive outcomes.

In addition, the sports ecosystem increasingly integrates technology and sustainability. Digital platforms, data analysis, and smart infrastructure are transforming how sports are managed and experienced, while sustainable practices help reduce environmental impact. Young people play a central role in driving these innovations and shaping a more responsible sports industry.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Mr. Gabriel MVOGO SAINT, President of the Youth Institute, for his leadership and commitment to promoting youth voices through the International Youth Institute and the World Youth Forum. Initiatives like this provide young people with a unique platform to contribute intellectually to global discussions surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup and beyond.
